Position Summary

Avum is seeking Java Developers at varying experience levels to support the design, development, integration, and maintenance of enterprise software applications for Federal Government customers.

This role develops Java applications, collaborates with Agile teams, and supports secure, reliable software solutions for mission critical programs. Responsibilities and level of ownership will align with the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain Java applications and services
  • Translate business and technical requirements into software solutions
  • Develop and maintain APIs, backend systems, and application integrations
  • Collaborate with architects, business analysts, QA engineers, and stakeholders throughout the software development lifecycle
  • Participate in sprint planning, standups, and retrospectives
  • Troubleshoot software defects and support root cause analysis
  • Write unit tests and support automated testing efforts
  • Participate in code reviews and follow established coding and security standards
  • Create and maintain technical documentation
  • Support software deployments and production releases
  • Based on experience, contribute to technical design decisions, guide development efforts, and mentor other developers

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $115,000 to $150,000 annually. Actual compensation and position level will be determined based on experience, qualifications, certifications, geographic location, and the responsibilities of the assigned role.

Work Environment & Requirements

  • Hybrid/remote work environment with potential on-site requirements based on contract needs
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Active Secret security clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain one, consistent with contract requirements. An appropriate active clearance and authorized access are required before performing classified duties.
  • Background investigation required.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field
  • Professional experience developing Java applications
  • Experience developing RESTful APIs and web services
  • Experience with Spring Boot, Spring Framework, or similar Java frameworks
  • Experience with SQL and relational databases
  • Experience with source control tools such as Git
  • Understanding of software development practices, including testing, debugging, and code reviews
  • Ability to collaborate within an Agile development team
  • Ability to communicate technical information and maintain clear documentation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Federal Government or DoD programs
  • Experience developing cloud applications in AWS or Azure
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices
  • Experience with Docker or Kubernetes
  • Experience with microservices architecture
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks
  • Experience leading technical development, contributing to application architecture, or mentoring developers
