Avum, Inc. Successfully Completes B2B eStore for Canon
Computer Systems, Inc.
MALIBU, CA, July 17, 2001 -- Avum, Inc., a leading
provider of global enterprise solutions, announced today
the successful completion of a personalized B2B eStore for
Canon Business Solutions, Inc., a 3 billion dollar division
of Canon, USA. Inc. The eSolutions eStore, which supports
four primary sales subsidiaries of Canon Computer Systems,
Inc., substantially reduces costs and increases customer
satisfaction by allowing customers to place orders and check
order status at any time and from anywhere.
Avum, Inc. system architects and software engineers utilized
WebObjects Enterprise Object Framework (EOF), Avum Application
Integration Technology, and Microsoft Commerce Server 2000
to create a solution which provides a customized interface
that displays available products and inventory levels based
on sales region. Avum, Inc.'s extensive experience with
financial processing and eCommerce made it a natural choice
to provide a complete solution for Canon Computer Systems,
Inc.
The high profile project, which progressed from design to
site launch in only six months, was on time and under budget,
despite the aggressive schedule and the unique challenges
it presented.
"Our primary challenge was to develop an internet presence
that would allow multiple subsidiaries to sell product on
one eStore, while at the same time maintaining their independence
from inventory to sale on the backend legacy systems," says
John Martyniak, Chief Operations Officer and Chief Technology
Officer of Avum, Inc. "An added challenge was the requirement
that site guests not be made aware that they were actually
being serviced by independent subsidiaries instead of a
single eStore, even though all of the subsidiaries maintained
individual catalogs."
Avum, Inc. leveraged its Application Server 2.0 platform,
which utilizes an XML-based pipeline and XML as the common
messaging format through all steps of the Supply Chain.
Avum, Inc. also developed an XML Adaptor which converts
XML to and from Flat Files that are processed by the RPG
programs on the AS/400.
