Jerry Hill
Advisory Staff - Senior Science Advisor
Jerry Hill joined Avum in August 2008, with over 35 years experience under his belt in our industry. As the company's Senior Science Advisor, he oversees Avum's Life Cycle Engineering processes, assisting with the management of numerous projects, in addition to ongoing proposal efforts. He plays a key role in product development and engineering for Avum with a primary focus on further developing the company’s engineering processes.
Mr. Hill makes it his business to stay abreast of latest industry best practices in project management and related processes, from Structured Analysis & Design, to Object Oriented Analysis & Design, including the related tools to eliminate defects during the design stage. He studies and evaluates for practical application, SEI/CMMI development models, and is an enthusiastic proponent of CMMI's IPPD team development approach. His career has spanned our industry's transition through methodologies, including "Water Fall", "Spiral Model", "Agile/Scrum", and "Kanban", to all of which he has applied common sense tailoring in conforming to customer requirements and needs. In many cases, Mr. Hill had been applying these methodologies before the books on them had been written.
Prior to joining Avum, Mr. Hill had managed several system development projects for companies including SDC (now Unisys), Martin Marietta and CSC, followed by extensive consulting for aerospace companies, such as Boeing, Raytheon, and ITT, in addition to Illinois Institute of Technology Research Institute (IITRI), First Interstate Bank, and Quintron Systems, a small communications company for whom he had previously managed a small group of engineers. In this role, he has provided Project Management Plans (PMP), and technical audits on system development projects, in concert with general management consulting.
Mr. Hill currently manages multiple contracts/projects for Avum, with his successes being directly attributable to his many years of experience, cited in this brief past experience summary.
Mr. Hill's being goal oriented in training for and competing in triathlons carries over into Avum's pursuit of excellence.
Mr. Hill has a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Hope College, Holland, MI. He attended Officer Training School, where he was commissioned an officer in the United States Air Force in 1963. He later graduated from Weapons Controller School, where he was certified to control jet fighters in intercepting enemy aircraft. After passing a highly competitive entrance examination, he entered and successfully completed a four month Air Force computer systems training course, ultimately becoming an instructor in the same course. Mr. Hill also completed a Project Management course in 1990, while working for Computer Sciences Corporation. He continually attends seminars and conferences to stay current with the industry.
